Police DUI stats for the week of February 17-23, 2013

During the week of February 17, 2014, through February 23, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 27 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 195 DUI arrests compared with 176 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 231 major accidents so far this year compared with 205 during the same period last year, an increase of 12.7 percent.

So far this year, there were three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 62.5 percent.

To date, one fatality related to drugs only (0), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (1).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
