Emergency crews rescued a heavy equipment operator trapped under a large roller compactor that crashed into a carport Wednesday afternoon in Keauhou.

A co-worker reported the 38-year-old man was operating the compactor when he lost control and it crashed into the house in the 79-7000 block of the Kona Belt Road (Highway 180).

Fire personnel were alerted to the accident shortly after 1 p.m. and used webbing to free him as the vehicle was in an unstable position.

The man was alert and awake and complained of pain to his entire body.

He was transported to Kona Community Hospital.
