Police DUI stats for the week of January 27-February 2, 2014

During the week of January 27, 2014, through February 2, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 29 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 130 DUI arrests compared with 96 during the same period last year, an increase of 35.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 120 major accidents so far this year compared with 112 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.1 percent.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, a decrease of 57.1 percent.

To date, no fatalities were related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
