Captain Cook woman dies in apparent drowning

MEDIA RELEASE

Emergency crews responded to an apparent drowning Friday afternoon at Kua Bay.

Police and fire/rescue personnel reported responding to the 2:12 p.m. call and transported a woman to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m.

Police identified the woman as Carol Vandermyden, 44, of Captain Cook.

An autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause of death.
