Free July 4th community picnic at old airport Maka’eo Pavilion

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawai’i County Democrats will sponsor the 12th Annual Community Picnic beginning at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Old Airport Maka’eo Pavilion.  The theme of this year’s picnic is “…liberty and justice for all.”  The picnic is organized by West Hawai’i Democrats, is free, and the public is invited.

In addition to the usual Independence Day picnic fare of hot dogs, a variety of salads, ice cold watermelon, cakes and beverages, elected officials are contributing door prizes valued at over $1,000.  Musical entertainment and children’s activities are included.

The picnic is a wonderful opportunity to join with friends and neighbors to celebrate Independence Day and, to personally talk story with many of our elected officials.  Confirmed special guests include Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, Congresswomen Colleen Hanabusa and Tulsi Gabbard, State Senators Josh Green and Malama Solomon, and County Councilwomen Karen Eoff and Margaret Wille.

The picnic will conclude at 4:30 p.m.  Picnic goers are invited to join the Hawai’i County Democrats marching in the Kailua-Kona annual Independence Day Parade which begins at 5:30 p.m. and culminates with the fireworks at 8 p.m.
