Girls Basketball: Crowns up for grabs, will be televised (Feb. 8)

At least one of the two girls state basketball titles belongs to the Big Island.

The Division I and Division II title games are to be played Friday, Feb. 8 and both will be televised. The games are will be shown at 5 p.m. and at 7 p.m. on OC16.

The Division I game features perennial powerhouse Konawaena, seeded No. 1, against No. 2 Kamehameha Schools Kapalama. That game tips off at 7 p.m.

Konawaena is seeking its third straight state championship and its sixth since 2004.

Meanwhile, the Division II crown already belongs to a Big Island team. The 5 p.m. game pits No. 1 Kamehameha Schools Hawaii against unseeded Honokaa.

Defending champion Kamehameha Schools Hawaii also won the title in 2005 and 2007.
