Chinese visitor assaulted and robbed at Rainbow Falls Park Wednesday (Feb 6)

Police are investigating a reported robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon at Rainbow Falls Park in Hilo.

On February 6, 2013 at about 3 p.m, police received a report that a 49-year-old male visitor from Beijing, China was assaulted by a male suspect and robbed of his belongings near the bathroom area at Rainbow Falls Park. The male visitor was part of a larger tour group but seperated himself while using the restroom.

The suspect was described as possibly in his 30s or 40s, about six feet tall, medium build, wearing a dark blue shirt with light colored white stripes, and dark colored pants.

Police ask that anyone with information on the identity of the suspect to contact police.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.     Race? White guy? Black guy? Eskimo? C’mon, need a little more detail if you are trying to help the police.

  2. Some shady characters “hang out” there, which is sad as many tourists and locals go there.
