For the second year straight, Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s girls soccer team stumbled in the state championship game and had to settle for runner-up behind Mid-Pacific.

The final score of 2-0 gave Mid-Pacific its third Division II crown in a row, beating HPA twice in the final and, two years ago, in the semifinals.

In this year’s Hawaii High School Athletic Association final on Oahu, Mid-Pacific wore down the Ka Makani, firing off two goals in the first half and protecting the lead for the second half.

Under coach Steve Perry, HPA finished the season with a 12-2-2 record, while Mid-Pacific finished at 7-7-1

Julie Khil latched onto a nice through-ball from Jenna Richards in the 30th minute and Taylor Higa sliced through the defense and put Mid-Pacific up by two in the 36th minute.

Also in Division II, Makua Lani Radford tied at 2-2, giving both teams a claim on fifth place. Tiffany Nakamura scored both goals for Makua Lani.

Also, Kamehameha-Hawaii took out Honokaa, 3-0. Kekai Yuen scored twice, with Tiffany Pacheco adding a third goal.

Meanwhile, in Division I, Konawaena and Kamehameha-Maui wrestled to a 0-0 draw and a fifth-place tie.

And a 3-3 tie meant Kealakehe and King Kekaulike have a share of seventh place. Lexie Cuaresma tallied two and Jade Richmond contributed the third goal for Kealakehe.
