High surf advisory for West Hawaii

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the high surf advisory for West facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Saturday (Feb 2).

Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range gradually lowering late tonight.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, pounding shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don’t go out.

There is a small craft advisory until 6 p.m. Saturday for Big Island Southeast waters and an advisory for Big Island Windward waters until 6 a.m. Saturday (Feb 2).
