Kaiser physicians, staff commemorate Day of Service

MEDIA RELEASE

Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff members will volunteer at Konawaena High and Waimea Middle Schools, and at UH Hilo’s Pacific Aquaculture & Coastal Resources Center to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

WHAT: MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE

Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff members are partnering with Hawaii Island School Garden Network volunteering their time working in sustainable gardens at Konawaena High and Waimea Middle Schools and performing clean up work at UH Hilo’s Pacific Aquaculture & Coastal Resources Center to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

This volunteer effort is part of several community initiatives being initiated by nearly 900 Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff members on the Big Island, Maui and Oahu.

WHO: KAISER PERMANENTE HAWAII

WHEN: 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan, 21, 2013

WHERE: Konawaena High School, Waimea Middle School and UH Hilo’s Pacific Aquaculture & Coastal Resources Center

Nine years ago, in honor and recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his advancement of civil and human rights, Kaiser Permanente established an annual day of service that takes place on Martin Luther King Day.

This approach to celebrating Dr. King’s life has enabled thousands of Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians to provide valuable services to our communities and to further advance the Kaiser Permanente legacy that parallels Dr. King’s values.

Rather than taking a holiday on that day, Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians take part in a “day on” of volunteering dedicated to the memory of Dr. King.
