Fire burns home in Hamakua Friday (Dec 14)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 10:05 p.m. alarm Friday (Dec 14) to Pohakealani Road in Hamakua for a structure fire.

Crews found the storage room of a house on fire beginning to flash over into a living area. The owner had fought most of the blaze before firefighters had arrived. Firefighters finished extinguishing the fire and HELCO disconnected the power.

There was extensive smoke damage to the entire home with the total loss estimated to be valued at $30,000.

There were no injuries reported in the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
