The Big Island has some new royalty.

Guinevere Davenport is 2013 Miss Kona Coffee.

Davenport was crowned the newest Miss Kona Coffee at the scholarship pageant Saturday night at Sheraton Kona Resort.

Sloanne HewLen is 2013 Miss Aloha Hawaii and Keahi Delovio is 2013 Miss Kona Coffee Outstanding Teen.

Davenport, 17, is a Kealakehe High School senior who wants to study medicine and become either a surgeon or psychiatrist.

“The whole reason I enter the pageant was for the scholarship opportunity,” she said. “I want to go to UH Hilo and become a doctor. It’s very important to me to practice here in Hawaii’s rural communities. They deserve the best the of the best and I want to be the best of the best. That’s what I really want for Hawaii.”

Davenport, who enjoys making jewelry from beach glass, said she was stunned by the judge’s decision.

“At first, in this competition, I felt like I had to fit the mold, but I still wanted to stay true to myself,” she said. “And I feel like I did that. But really I’m still just trying to comprehend all this. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Outgoing queen Corinne Quinajon pinned the crown on Davenport.

The senior said she’s grateful that she was able to grow closer to the other contestants, some of whom she has known since kindergarten.

“It’s not like we’ve been best friends or anything, but this experience has been really great,” she said.

For the talent portion, Davenport recited poetry and her platform is “encouraging science enthusiasm within future generations.”

She is the daughter of Sandra Davenport and has one brother, Maxillian, 10.

Among Davenport’s prizes are a $1,500 scholarship, a trip to Japan courtesy of UCC Ueshima Coffee Company and a gift certificate from Kamehameha Investment Corp.

Hewlen, 23, is a member of the Kealakehe Class of 2007 and is studying to be a obstetrician / gynecologist.

She is the daughter of Kawmoana and Kathleen HewLen and sister to Zed, Zy and Zahz. She danced Tahitian Otea.

Delovio, 15, is a Kealakehe student and National Honor Society member, who wants to become a nurse practitioner.

Daughter of Makana and Tammy Delovio, she sang for her talent.

The JV volleyball player is sister to Manawai, Kahanu, Lako, Kalaiku, Pelika and Kealoha.

The pageant was MC’d by Eddie O and Yisa Var. Executive director is Tracey Apoliona.

The Miss Kona Coffee Scholarship Pageant is hosted by the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, thanks to the support of Diamond Major Sponsor U.C.C., Ueshima Coffee Company, Ltd.
