Hilo and Waiakea Intermediate School students wave signs to promote safe driving

MEDIA RELEASE

This month, students from Hilo Intermediate School and Waiakea Intermediate School held several sign-waving events in an effort to promote safe driving during the holiday season. These future leaders of our community learned about safe driving habits from their school resource officers and took to the streets to share their knowledge.

“It’s great to see how enthusiastic the students are to make our community safer,” said Officer Nelson Acob, school resource officer for Waiakea Intermediate School. Added Officer Bryan Tina, school resource officer for Hilo Intermediate School: “The students had a great time waving for a good cause.”

The Hawaiʻi Police Department reminds drivers to use safe driving habits, wear your seat belt, avoid distraction by electronic devices, drive sober and drive no faster than the speed limit.

Together we can make this holiday season the safest ever.
