Sam Ryelan Perez

Police have charged a Honokaʻa man for a break-in that occurred in August of this year in Honokaʻa.

Today at 10:45 a.m. (September 14, 2012) after conferring with prosecutors, Sam Ryelan Perez was charged for one count of first degree burglary and one count of second degree theft. Bail for Perez was set at $35,000.00 and he is being held at the police cellblock pending his initial appearance on Monday.

On August 23, 2012 shortly before 4:00 p.m., a 57-year-old Honokaʻa woman called police and reported that upon returning home, she discovered that her residence was entered and several items were missing.

Police learned that a neighbor observed a male running through adjacent yards and recognized Perez.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and Perez was identified as the suspect.

Police have recovered a portion of the stolen property allegedly taken by Perez.
