Hawaii County Fire/Rescue crews responded to a 9:50 p.m. alarm Tuesday (Aug 14) to The Pukihae Bridge area of Highway 19 near the three mile marker for a man who fell off the bridge.
Upon arriving crews found a 24 year-old man laying on the bank of Pukihae Stream after apparently falling 30 feet from the bridge. Crews made their way down a trail to the victim who was awake and was able to talk to them. Medics secured the man to a litter and transported him to Hilo Medical Center for evaluation and assessment.
During the operation the North bound land of Highway 19 was closed. The incident is under investigation by police.
