Ahalanui Beach Park in Puna is closed until Thursday afternoon (April 12)

MEDIA RELEASE

Ahalanui Beach Park in lower Puna will be closed until 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12 to protect the public while accessibility improvements are made, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced Wednesday.

Construction crews will be using heavy equipment to build a concrete walkway at the popular hot pond. Because the construction work will temporarily block the existing access path from the parking lot to the pond, the department has decided to close the park to ensure no park users are unnecessarily placed in harm’s way.

“We thank the Puna community for being patient while we make this upgrade, which will allow more people to enjoy Ahalanui Beach Park,” Parks Director Bob Fitzgerald said.
