Crash in Mountain View closes highway for three hours, man sent to hospital

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:25 a.m. alarm Friday (April 6) for a two vehicle crash on Volcano Road (Hwy 11) near Kulani Road in Mountain View.

Crews found a small pickup truck in the middle of the highway with extensive front end damage. A police officer on the scene was doing CPR on the man trapped in the pickup. Fire crews used the jaws-of-life to free the trapped man who was then strapped to a spineboard and taken by medic to Hilo Medical Center. The condition of the man is unknown.

A second vehicle involved was found South of the crash scene but there were no injuries.

Volcano Road (Highway 11) was closed to traffic for almost three hours with traffic detoured through Old Volcano Road mauka of the crash scene.
