Puako transfer station green waste collection changes to Sundays in April

MEDIA RELEASE

Residential green waste collection will change from Saturdays to Sundays. The last Saturday collection will be March 31, 2012 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, April 1, 2012, and on Sundays thereafter, green waste will be collected during normal operating hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Puakō Transfer Station is not permitted to accept green waste from commercial haulers. Only residential users may legally dump green waste at the facility. Residential loads are limited to one per day and must be no larger than five cubic feet which is approximately the size of an eight-foot pickup truck bed filled to the height of the cab.

Normal operating hours for rubbish collection at the Puakō Transfer Station will continue to be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.

In West Hawai`i, commercial haulers and residents may still dispose of green waste without charge at the green waste facility at the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station.
