Asha Prithviraj’ bases-loaded grounder and Amber Waracka’s 10-strikeout performance gave the University of Hawaii at Hilo a 4-3 Pacific West Conference over Notre Dame de Namur University in nine innings.
The Vulcans improve to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the PacWest while the Argonauts are 10-6 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest. The second game was not played due to prior travel arrangements.
With two outs on the board, a single, walk and error loaded the bases for Prithviraj. On a 1-0 count, the junior sent the ball to the right side. What seemed an easy putout turned else wise as the ball bounced off of the Argonauts second baseman’s glove who picked up the errant ball and got the ball to the firstbaseman as Prithviraj crossed the base and allowed Erin Oshiro to score.
The Vulcans trailed 3-0 when Waracka took the mound with one out and two runners on base in the third inning. The senior shutdown the Argonauts from there giving up just three hits and recording her 10 strikeouts.
Emily Greene led the Vulcans at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance.
