Women’s Campaign Fund president endorses Hirono

MEDIA RELEASE

Citing the critical need for more women in office, particularly in the U.S. Senate, WCF president/CEO Siobhan “Sam” Bennett announced the endorsement of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, who is running for U.S. Senate in Hawaii.

“As a Congresswoman and as a Lieutenant Governor, Mazie Hirono has a long track record of standing up for women and families,” Bennett said. “That is especially important now, when the rights of those constituencies are being attacked on an unprecedented scale. I know Mazie will be a fierce advocate in the Senate and I am proud to endorse her candidacy.”

The current political climate is especially hostile for women and reproductive rights, Bennett said.

“Decisions regarding women’s health are being made by politicians, not doctors, and behind closed doors, oftentimes with no women present at all,” she said. “We need to elect more pro-choice women like Mazie to the U.S. Senate who will stand up for women and families and restore the Congress’ focus on the economy and job creation.”

If elected, Hirono would be the woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Hawaii and the first Asian-American woman Senator in history.

The Women’s Campaign Fund is a national, non-partisan organization dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of women in elected office who support reproductive health choices for all.
