Four isle teams represent at boys basketball state tourney

Two Big Island boys basketball teams are seeded in the state championship, which kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 22 on Oahu.

Division II boys basketball champion HPA received the No. 2 seed in the state tournament.

HPA (9-3) is seeded No. 2 in Division II and takes on Hanalani at 7 p.m. Thursday. Hanalani (12-2) was second in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.

On Thursday, BIIF runner-up Kohala (8-5) plays OIA champ and No. 1 seed Kalaheo.

In Division I, BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawaii (13-1) is seeded No. 3 and will opens at 5 p.m. Thursday against the Academy of the Pacific – Pearl City winner.

Also in Division I, Hilo (12-3), plays 5 p.m. Wednesday against Leilehua (8-2). If Hilo wins, top seed Punahou (11-1) awaits in the quarterfinals.

The championship games are Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Center. The Division II championship game tips off at 5 p.m. and the Division I title game is at 7 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast on Channel OC16.
