Crash snaps utility pole, leaves 130 HELCO customers without power in Kona

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) has announced that at approximately 5 p.m. an outage occurred on Middle Keei Road in Kona affecting 130 customers. The outage was caused by a motor vehicle crash that brought down one 40′ pole as well as damaging a guy pole and two spans of conductors. Hawaiian Tel and Oceanic Cable services were also affected. HELCO, HawaiianTel and Oceanic crews will be working throughout the night to restore service. The estimated time of power restoration is 4 a.m. Middle Keei Road will be closed to traffic until repairs can be made.

HELCO apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused and sincerely thanks customers for their cooperation and understanding. Mahalo.
