Highway 19 gets closed at Kaawalii Gulch due to landslide early Thursday (Dec 22)

At 12:30 a.m. Thursday (Dec 22) Hawaii County Police reported that Highway 19 is closed at Kaawalii Gulch due to a landslide blocking the roadway. State highway crews are on scene clearing debris and the roadway is estimated to be closed until 3:30 a.m.

Motorists are advised to find alternate routes due to the closure.

UPDATED (12/22/11)

As of 4:30 a.m. police report that the landslide has been cleared and the roadway is open to traffic.
