MEDIA RELEASE

Parker School held its National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony on Monday, Dec. 5.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 to recognize outstanding high school students, and four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.

Applicants to the National Honor Society must demonstrate these qualities, and maintain a 3.5 GPA.

Service is a large component of NHS membership, and so far this year the Parker School NHS has volunteered by helping with a local blood drive; collecting clothing and school supplies for the domestic abuse shelter in Kona; and providing ongoing tutoring for Parker students.

They plan to continue their commitment to service by raising funds for Heifer International and Relay for Life.

This year’s National Honor Society members are: Jesse Tarnas (NHS chapter president); Sarah Willey (vice-president); Brieanah Gouveia (Secretary); Lysha Matsunobu (Treasurer); Olivia Armandroff; Paul Gregg; Evan Kasberg; Mariko Langevin; Tyler McCullough; Aidan Wharton; Jaren Ashcraft; Kosuke Kume; Michael Note; Luke Potter; and Maia Tarnas.
