Over a dozen car break-ins at Honolii Beach Park area

MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are warning the public about recent car break-ins and thefts that have been concentrated in the area of Honoliʻi Beach Park. During the month of October, police investigated twelve vehicle break-ins at Honoliʻi, and another three break-ins from the surrounding area. The incidents are occurring throughout the day, with a higher concentration during the early morning and evening hours.

The primary method of entry is by breaking a window or through an unlocked door. Police remind the public that all vehicles left unattended should be locked and secured properly. Any valuable items left inside should be concealed from view. If at all possible, don’t leave any valuables inside the vehicle.

Police ask that the public to report any suspicious persons or activities and provide any leads that might help identify possible suspects by calling the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
