Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:14 p.m. alarm Friday (Oct 28) to Pololu Valley Beach for a man who nearly drowned.

The 59 year-old man found himself in trouble while in the ocean due to his unfamiliarity with the beach and ocean currents at Pololu Valley beach. The man was pulled from the water by friends and bystanders.

The man was evacuated with Chopper Two, evaluated and treated by firefighters and flown to North Hawaii Community Hospital.
