Hunter rescued from Volcano wilderness

Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire Department crews were alerted to a missing hunter shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, but he was located and rescued in good health.

According to fire officials, the 56-year-old man was unfamiliar with the hunting area behind the Volcano transfer station and could not find the trail after he became disoriented in the forest.

He was spotted from the county helicopter and ground crews were able to walk him out and return to their quarters by 8:30 p.m.

The hunter was not injured.
