Over 26K HELCO customers lose power Tuesday morning (Aug 2)

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) has announced that at 6:07 a.m. this morning approximately 26,286 customers experienced a short power interruption when Hamakua Energy Partners’ (HEP) generators unexpectedly tripped off-line. Customers located in various locations throughout the Island were turned off automatically to protect the rest of the system. Other HELCO generating units in reserve were immediately started and service to all affected customers was restored by 6:35 a.m.
