Firefighters responded to a 2:19 p.m. alarm Monday (July 4) to Old Puako Beach Road for a brushfire across from the area known as Beach 69.
Crews used two fire engines a tanker unit, medic unit and nine firefighers in total to work the fire. Firefighers were able to get the fire under control by 2:43 p.m. and it was declared out at 3:50 p.m.
During mop-up operations crews found what looked like fireworks about three feet off the roadway next to the burn area. Evidence was gathered and turned over to police.
Approximately one acre was burned, there were no injuries reported or structures damaged. Old Puako Beach Road was closed during the firefighting operation.
