MEDIA RELEASE

APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee, The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, and the four counties, has announced the APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase.

The APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee, in partnership with The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Kauai County, the City and County of Honolulu, Maui County and Hawaii County, is providing an unprecedented opportunity for businesses registered in the state to showcase innovation in businesses, products and services to an international audience during APEC 2011 Leaders’ Week.

The APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase will recognize leading edge innovation and achievement in Hawaii’s business community, reinforce Hawaii as a place of strong economic opportunities and engage the Hawaii business community in APEC 2011 Hawaii.

“Hawaii businesses have extraordinary stories to tell and the Business Innovation Showcase will bring them to the forefront,” said Peter Ho, APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee Chair. “Hawaii’s best and brightest will be showcased to 20,000 APEC attendees in multiple venues during the course of Leaders’ Week.”

“The Hawaii Host Committee is grateful to our County Mayors and The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii for their partnership and support of the Showcase. This program is another way that businesses across the entire state will benefit from APEC 2011 Hawaii. In addition, the information and material developed will be made available as a resource for future meetings and convention marketing efforts and other economic development initiatives so that the momentum generated by APEC 2011 Hawaii will continue well beyond November.”

The Host Committee is looking for businesses and business-related projects that:

* Are attractive to markets outside Hawaii, including the APEC member Economies;
* Have developed unique, leading and cutting-edge innovations in product development, technology, marketing or delivery;
* Have positively impacted Hawaii’s business environment;
* Have growth and investment potential; and
* Have adopted environmentally sound programs and practices.

The statewide program will award up to 35 Recognitions of Excellence to companies from each county and one overall statewide winner.

Applications will be reviewed by evaluation panels in each county. County winner applications will then be reviewed by a state evaluation panel to vie for the overall statewide awards.

Awardees will receive recognition at various APEC 2011 Hawaii programs that could include displays at APEC 2011 Hawaii venues, virtual displays and media opportunities.
