Green Waste and Scrap Metal Collection at the Kea`au Solid Waste Transfer Station will be Closed during Construction
Construction will temporarily put a halt to green waste and scrap metal collections at the Kea`au Solid Waste Transfer Station beginning Monday, May 9, 2011.
The transfer station is being redesigned to be more accessible and easier to use. The green waste and scrap metal operations are scheduled to reopen upon completion of construction on Friday, October 28th, 2011.
“We apologize for the inconvenience to our residents,” said Frank DeMarco, Director of the Department. “We thank everyone for their patience and believe our effort to make the Kea`au station a much better facility will be worth the wait.”
Except for green waste and scrap metal collections, all services will remain open at the Kea`au Transfer Station during the construction period. Residents are encouraged to take their green waste and scrap metal to the Pāhoa and Hilo Transfer Stations during the construction period.
