Lost hiker rescued by chopper Wednesday afternoon (April 27)

MEDIA RELEASE

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:55 p.m. alarm Wednesday (April 27) to search for a lost hiker in the Laupahoehoe area.

The male hiker left a hunting station 2.8 miles above the 30 mile marker on Highway 19 at 7 a.m., was unable to find his way back to his vehicle and called 911 for help. The fire department’s Chopper One and ground crews responded to the scene and the man was located from the air and flown back near his vehicle. The man had no injuries and was able to leave the scene via his own vehicle.

Crews were back in their station at 4:30 p.m.
