Kona Booklovers to discuss ‘March’ (Nov. 16)

What: Booklovers Meeting on the lanai at Kailua-Kona Library

When: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16

The Kona Library Book Club meets to discuss “March” by Geraldine Brooks.

This is a tale centering on the absentee father from Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) that offers glimpses of the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad while driving home the horrors and ironies of the Civil War and the difficulty of living with human suffering.

The first-person narrative by March switches to Marmee, who describes a different version of the years past and an agonized reaction to the truth she uncovers about her husband’s life.

Join us for a lively discussion and light refreshments. New members are welcome.

Our selection for December is “Molokai” by Alan Brennert.
