Fatal crash closes Hawaii Belt Road (Hwy 11) Sunday (Oct 17)

MEDIA RELEASE

Fire/rescue units responded to a 9:01 a.m. alarm Sunday (Oct 17) for a tour bus that crashed head-on with a Toyota truck near the 89 mile marker of Highway 11 that left one dead and 10 injured.

The tour bus was off the roadway with all the passengers out of the bus when rescue crews arrived. The driver of the Toyota truck was dead in the vehicle which was still on the highway.

Three medic units transported 10 patients to Kona Community Hospital for injuries.

The highway was closed after the crash and reported to be reopened to traffic at 1:50 p.m.

    this road should be re-named “Death Alley”…soooo many fatalities
