MEDIA RELEASE

Kona Community Hospital has announced Kathryn Harter has been appointed to the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the hospital. She is currently the hospital’s Chief Nurse Executive. Her new position starts Nov. 1.

Kathryn Harter

Harter has 33 years of professional experience including 19 years in administration. Most recently, Kathryn served as the Chief Nursing Officer at Wythe County Community Hospital in Virginia, a 110-bed for-profit facility.

Previously, she was the CNO at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Virginia, a 133-bed acute, 44-bed skilled and long-term care facility.

Harter received a nursing degree from Broome College (New York), another in organizational management from John Brown University (Arkansas) and a MBA from Webster University (Missouri).

When asked why she went into healthcare, she said, “I have always wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and nursing was the perfect avenue for me to do that. I especially enjoy the administrative side of healthcare where one has the opportunity to impact the experience for both patients and healthcare workers.”

Harter relocated from Wytheville, Virginia to Kona one year ago.

“The transition to the Big Island has been a very positive experience. I love all the diversity and the sweet spirit of the people I have met. I look forward to a long tenure here,” she said.

She is also a watercolorist and enjoys exploring our island.

“We are fortunate to have someone of such high caliber as Kathryn take on this role,” said Earl Greenia, outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Kona Community Hospital and Kohala Hospital. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and energy. Her leadership will ensure a smooth transition.”
