Larry Carlton and his Trio at UH-Hilo (Sept. 26)

The University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center presents Larry Carlton and his Trio in one performance only 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26.

Recently awarded a lifetime achievement award by Guitar Player Magazine, jazz/rock guitar legend Carlton is famous for his incendiary guitar work on the Steely Dan classic albums, Royal Scam and Aja.

His guitar work on Steely Dan’s Kid Charlemagne was hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as the third best guitar solo ever, putting him in the company of guitar greats Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.

A highly sought after session musician, Carlton has performed on hit albums from such artists as Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Sammy Davis Jr., Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones, Bobby Bland, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and dozens of others. His theme music credits for TV and films include Against All Odds, Who’s the Boss, and Hill Street Blues. In addition to a successful studio and solo career, he was also a member of the jazz quartet Fourplay.
