Fire burns two-story structure in Hilo Monday (July 26)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 4:28 p.m. alarm Monday (July 26) to the intersection of Wailoa Street and Ululani Street for a structure fire.

Crews found a two-story vacant, abandoned structure 75% engulfed in flames. Firefighters had to make their way through a surrounding chain link fence to access the fire scene. Heavy fire damage was reported in two units on the second floor.

There were no injuries reported and traffic was detoured to Hualalai Street and Mohouli Street.

Damage was estimated to be $60,000 of the $150,000 structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
