DUI stats for the week of July 5-11

During the week of July 5, 2010, through July 11, 2010, Big Island police arrested 24 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 802 DUI arrests compared with 751 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 705 major accidents so far this year compared with 857 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.7 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 63.6 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
