The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Sharon Yoon as “Officer of the Month” for June in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (June 2) at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Yoon was honored for her outstanding performance during March and April.

In March, Yoon served 33 court documents, of which 17 were bench warrants. During the same time, she made 23 adult arrests that led to 24 charges—including one for driving under the influence. She also issued 23 traffic citations.

In April, Yoon arrested and charged six individuals for driving under the influence while working only 18 days. She also issued 28 traffic citations, initiated 24 criminal cases and served eight bench warrants.

Sergeant Michael Riviera, who nominated Yoon for the honor, noted that she was assigned to the Kona District in May 2008. “Officer Yoon’s enforcement in this area has helped to keep our streets a little safer and keeps with the department’s core values,” Riviera said. “Officer Yoon is an asset to her watch, the Kona District and our department.”

As “Officer of the Month,” Yoon is eligible to become “Officer of the Year.”

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
