Three slack key guitar performances cancelled at public libraries

MEDIA RELEASE

Three upcoming National Library Week 2010 programs featuring award-winning slack key guitarist John Keawe, including today’s 6 p.m. performance at Honokaa Public Library, have been cancelled due to a family illness. Keawe’s previously-scheduled “Tribute to Slack Key” program will not be held at the following libraries:

  • April 15 (6 p.m.) at Honokaa Public Library
  • April 24 (1 p.m.) at Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library
  • April 27 (6:30 p.m.) at Kahuku Public and School Library

Keawe is a multiple Na Hoku Hanohano and Hawaii Music awards recipient and a contributing artist on Hawaii’s first Grammy winner, “Slack Key Guitar Volume 2” (2005).

An announcement will be made when replacement programs for these libraries have been confirmed.

In celebration of National Library Week 2010, Hawaii’s public libraries are currently offering free programs throughout the month of April. The Friends of the Library of Hawaii, Marriott Resorts Hawaii, Ko Olina Resort & Marina, HMS Host, Meadow Gold Dairies, National Endowment for the Arts, State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii-Manoa Outreach College, Statewide Cultural Extension Program, are sponsoring these programs.

Program schedules are subject to change. Contact the hosting library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed. Visit the HSPLS website: www.librarieshawaii.org for a complete listing of National Library Week 2010 programs or call your local library to find out what programs will be offered.
