Police arrest three for 10 grams of marijuana in Pahoa

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Police Department Officers initiated several drug investigations earlier this year in response to concerns voiced by Councilwoman Emily Nae’ole-Beason regarding rampant street drug dealing taking place in Pāhoa Town.

A coordinated effort between the department’s Vice Section and Community Policing Officers led to the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of three individuals on drug related offenses. Aaron Johnson, a 39-year-old Pāhoa man, was arrested and charged with promoting a detrimental drug after a warrant was served on his car and person, resulting in the recovery of 10 grams of dry processed marijuana in several baggies packaged for distribution.

Also arrested in connection with the investigation were Michael Carvalho and Michael Lancaster, both 23 and both of Pāhoa. These individuals were released pending further investigation.

These arrests are part of the police department’s ongoing effort to curtail the proliferation of illicit drug distribution in our community. We encourage concerned citizens to continue providing tips to the Vice Section at (808) 934-8423. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.

if these police were arresting someone for “ice”, cocaine, heroin, barbituates, alcohol, tobacco or other dangerous and toxic drugs, i’d understand better, although it’s hard for me to fathom how laws can dictate what i can or cannot put into my own body. a day may come when other foods and plants will be illegal and you’ll be a criminal for eating tomatoes or smoking mullen. there is currently a law before congress to make it a criminal act to grow food in your backyard and sell at market without a government permit. for those who already only eat food bought at grocery store chains, this is perhaps the logical next step. when you wake up in a world where you don’t eat and survive without being fed by the corporations who grow your food (as many already do), you are in a modern form of slavery. the monsanto corporation has already begun this process with its “terminator” seed, genetically modified to not propogate. there may come a day when you could not grow your own food even if you wanted to.

    TEN GRAMS? What’s that?

My neighbor’s illegal drug operation is being protected by police who refuse to investigate her…it’s on the exact opposite side of the island.

So why are these people being targeted and a full on growing/manufacturing/sales operation isn’t even being investigated?

I still suspect certain protections from selective engorcement, over-ups and “missing evidence”!!!

  3. My Conscience too says:

FYI…”other harmless drugs”? Marijuana has AS MANY ntural carcinogens as Tobacco…do your research…smoking of ANYTHING is “bad for you”! Pro-pot legislature is lying about that! There are several medical research papers that discuss it…and not ones from “stoner doctors” who make MEGA BUCKS off illicit “prescriptions”…

  4. Waste of county money says:

What an absolute waste of taxpayer dollars to send a vice Team to Pahoa to clean up the area around Cash and Carry. Ice dealers typically wouldn’t be dealing in places like this and the police know from experience that the guys in town are pretty harmless, but they were probably responding to pressure from county councilwoman Emily Naeole.
