Chinese New Year celebrations in Hilo (Feb. 13)

Hilo celebrates the Chinese New Year on Saturday, Feb. 13, with the Big Island Shaolin Lion Dance parade at the Mooheau Bus Terminal at 8:30 a.m.

The dancers will proceed along Kamehameha Avenue and up Waianuenue Avenue to Kalakaua Park, blessing people and businesses along the way.

The festival at Kalakaua Park starts at 10 a.m. with fireworks and more lion dancing in front of the East Hawaii Cultural Center.

A food court offers various treats of the region and Asia with free samples of barbecue pork on taro sesame buns and a cooking demonstration by the Hawaii Community College Culinary Arts program is at noon.
