Comment period open for state transportation program

MEDIA RELEASE

The state Department of Transportation is providing an opportunity for the public to submit comments on the proposed Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Revision #12 to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 to 2011 (+2) STIP.

The STIP document identifies projects that are to be programmed for federal Highway or Transit funding.

The main purpose of this revision is for the addition of the City and County of Honolulu’s Kamokila Boulevard Restoration Project, which is expected to use American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funds in FFY 2010. In order to keep the STIP financially constrained, the City and County of Honolulu has reprogrammed funds from some of their other FHWA-funded projects to fund the new Kamokila Boulevard Restoration Project.

Secondarily, this revision will identify other ARRA backup projects. Should a designated ARRA project be delayed or less expensive than anticipated, available ARRA funds are eligible to go to ARRA backup projects that are ready to begin.

There were no changes made to the neighbor island portion of the STIP, nor were there any changes made to the Federal Transit Administration program in STIP Revision #12.

New project information and a summary of explanations of the changes reflected in this revision can be found on our DOT STIP Web site at http://hawaii.gov/dot/highways/STIP/fy2008-2013-revisions.htm

Changes to the Oahu portion of the STIP are presently being processed as a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) revision by the Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization (OMPO).

More information on the TIP process and TIP revisions is available at the OMPO Web site at: www.oahumpo.org/programs/tip.html

Hard copies of the proposed STIP may be obtained by calling (808) 587-6355 or by using the contact information below.
