A 31-year-old Kamuela woman applied for the job on line. She received a check for $1,600 from the supposed employers, along with an e-mail asking her to cash the check, keep $300 and return $1,300 by Western Union. The woman complied with the request and later determined that the $1,600 check was bogus.

LG has received 11 reports of property damage incidents involving arcing, heat, smoke, including four fires that spread to the building structure and involved significant smoke/water damage. The Hawai‘i State Department of Health’s (DOH) Clean Air Branch will be monitoring Hawai’i’s air quality during New Year’s and comparing it with national ambient air quality standards. The heavy use of fireworks during the annual holiday celebration can significantly increase the amount of particulates in the air, especially on Oahu.
