Final Environmental Assessment for the Ane Keohokalole Highway mid-level road project is on the agenda for a meeting Tuesday at Kealakehe High School.

The Federal Highway Administration, with the state Department of Transportation and the county, announces a public hearing to present the final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Ane Keohokalole Mid-Level Highway project and to receive oral and written public testimony.

The project consists of the development of a new regional roadway link and utility corridor connecting Palani Road to the south and Hina Lani Street to the north (“proposed highway”), widening of Palani Road to provide additional vehicular lanes and a utility corridor between Henry Street and Queen Kaahumanu Highway (“proposed Palani Road widening”), and associated improvements within existing right-of-ways.

Public Hearing Date: Monday, Oct. 26, 2009

Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Location: Kealakehe High School, Kailua-Kona

An open house format without a formal presentation will be used to conduct this public hearing.

The first hour will be reserved for individuals who would like to obtain information about the project and the findings of the EA from project team members; opportunities to present one-on-one oral testimony to a stenographer will be provided.

The second hour will be reserved for individuals who would like to present their testimony to those attending the hearing.

The EA has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (42 United States Code §4321, et seq., as implemented by the Council on Environmental Quality regulations, 40 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1500-1508). It has been distributed to the affected federal, state, and local agencies, and is available for review at the following locations:
