National Guard unit coming home Thursday

A special homecoming is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 at Kona International Airport in the cell phone waiting area.

Please join with us, as we prepare to welcome home our Hawaii Army National Guard Heroes!

Our soldiers’ are the Det-1, Co D unit, under the Hawaii Army National Guard’s 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). This has been their 2nd deployment as a unit to the Middle East.

Having served in Baghdad, Iraq during OIF III (Operation Iraqi Freedom III) to provide base security from 2005-2006, our Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers returned to Kuwait and Iraq for their 2nd deployment from 2008-2009, to provide convoy security operations across Iraq.

Our soldiers have completed over 400 missions and have traveled over 500,000 miles across Iraq, over a period of 9 months.

Our soldiers are returning to the island Thursday, Aug. 20 and our FRG (Family Readiness Group), the Angels of Delta Company would like to join with our community to welcome home our returning heroes.

All you have to do is place a ‘Welcome Home/Thank the Troops’ sign or banner for all to see and hang a flag with a yellow ribbon to show all soldiers our pride and appreciation for their service and sacrifice to our great nation.

Our goal is to have a sign in every town, for all our soldiers to see upon their return. Anything is better than nothing, just printing or making a sign that reads, “Thank you & Welcome Home” says it all.

Mahalo for your continued support!
