DUI stats for the week of June 30-July 6

During the week of June 30, 2009, through July 6, 2009, Big Island police arrested 33 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 727 DUI arrests compared with 710 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 823 major accidents so far this year compared with 934 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.9 percent.

So far this year, there were 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.7 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
