Talk story with Kenoi at Kahaluu Beach Park

Talk story with Mayor Billy Kenoi, pitch in for the aina at Kahaluu Beach Park and enjoy Hawaiian entertainment, crafts and ono food at the Kahaluu La Ike Day.

The event is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 23.

 La Ike Day is a celebration of science and culture at Kahaluu. Discover the community’s vision for restoring the beach park. ReefTeach and Citizen Science teams will share the importance of coral reefs and water quality monitoring in our island way of life.

Kumu Mele Waikiki will teach her palapalai wili haku, the art of stringless lei making, and learn the art of coconut leaf weaving from kumu Sam Kama or ohe kapala (bamboo stamp making) with George Place. For the keiki, there will be face painting and clowning around.

The Kahaluu Bay Project is managed by The Kohala Center and sponsored by the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Keauhou Resort, Bill Healy Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program.
